How much does a Consultancy cost?
A consultancy meeting is a really useful starting point if you're unsure about what you might need, or if you would like to work on your garden in small stages as budget and time allows.

It’s £180 for a one hour meeting within 30 mins drive of St Albans. If you are further away, travel is an additional 45p per mile. The fee includes my travel, our meeting and a written report with suggestions for the way forward.

How long will it take to complete a full garden design?

From initial enquiry to finished garden, usually about a year. After the site survey is completed, allow about 4 weeks to receive your garden design. Timings after that depend on speed of client feedback, a scope of works being prepared, tendering, quotes agreed, availability of contractors and seasonal suitability for planting. Some projects are completed in stages over several years; the process is flexible and always tailored to your needs.

How much will it cost to redesign and construct my garden?

My fees are based on the size and complexity of the project and I quote on each project individually. My rate is £60 an hour including travel time, plus expenses and I am not VAT registered.

As a very rough guide, estimate about £150 per square metre for a mid-range mixture of planting, lawn and paving construction. Pace out your garden with big 1m strides (or measure it) and multiply the length by the width to get the total area, then multiply that figure by £150. E.g.10m wide by 20m long = 200m2 x £150 = £30,000. This figure will go up as you add more hard landscaping elements like lighting, raised or retaining walls, water features, outdoor kitchens, furniture and pots, or go down if you want mainly soft landscaping features like planting, trees and lawn.

My garden has already been built by our builders but we have no plants! Can you do the planting?

Yes, I’d be delighted! I’ll need a scaled drawing of the garden to accurately position and space the plants – maybe you have one from your builder or architect? If not, I can measure up your garden myself or arrange for a surveyor to do it. Once the planting design is complete and you have approved it, I’ll source and cost up plants, then arrange for delivery and planting. Depending on the time of year, allow about 3 months from your initial enquiry to a finished planted garden.
