Reading bulb catalogues in January is pure escapism! I received catalogues from Bloms Bulbs and Avon Bulbs through the post this weekend and I’ve been totally taken in with the dream of growing perfect plants, heady with scent and rich in colour.
While I was drooling over lilies, Lilium nepalense caught my eye; it has maroon and chartreuse nodding flowers, 80cm high, good in borders and flowering August/ September. Then I noticed the delightful Gladiolus nana Nymph, at 30cm high with white flowers with magenta splashes flowering from July to September and a beautiful deep violet purple Iris sibirica called Shirley Pope.
Now to find somewhere to grow them!
